On June 28, China officially released its first 100-billion-parameter large model for the power generation industry, the “Qingyuan” large model for power generation, in Beijing. Developed by China Energy Investment Corporation Co., Ltd. (CHN Energy), the model spans 15 business domains including thermal power, hydropower, and new energy generation. It supports 75 key application scenarios and incorporates over a hundred intelligent agents. The launch marks a major step toward intelligent and digital transformation in China’s energy sector.

Today, next-generation information technologies represented by artificial intelligence (AI) and big data are profoundly reshaping the energy industry landscape. As the world’s largest power generation enterprise by installed capacity, CHN Energy possesses vast data assets and an extensive application ecosystem. Actively embracing digital transformation, the company has launched its “AI+” initiative to build an intelligent system covering the full chain of power production, trading, dispatching, operations, and maintenance, injecting fresh momentum into the industry’s high-quality development.

As an industry-grade large model developed by a central SOE, Qingyuan delivers three key innovations. “Qingyuan is the first to introduce a new engine for dynamic multi-energy coordination and optimization. By integrating data from operational monitoring, equipment status, and meteorological conditions, it enables full-stack ‘model-agent-application’ product development. This allows intelligent agents from different domains to collaborate efficiently and dynamically optimize power generation,” said Yan Jidong, Manager of Digital Resources Division at the Technology Information Department of CHN Energy. “It also enables secure data sharing, offering intelligent optimization solutions across the power generation process.” “Qingyuan” also pioneers a new paradigm of deep vertical integration within the power sector, offering an intelligent end-to-end solution tailored to the entire electricity system, from generation to grid, end-use, and energy storage. It applies AI across 100% of critical production processes, setting a benchmark for deep intelligent transformation in the industry.

In addition, Qingyuan is the first to establish a fully domestically controlled full-stack intelligent decision-making system. Built entirely on homegrown technologies, it combines reinforcement learning and multimodal fusion methods to create a self-learning, self-adaptive intelligent decision-making framework, achieving full autonomy from technology to application and driving comprehensive intelligent upgrades in power operations.

According to Wang An, Manager of Operational Analysis Division at the Power Industry Department of CHN Energy, Qingyuan has already been successfully deployed in core areas such as safety and environmental protection, electricity trading, production dispatching, and equipment maintenance. It covers 13 scenarios with 41 intelligent agents and effectively addresses long-standing challenges in the power generation sector, including high safety risk, difficult transaction decision-making, complex multi-energy coordination, and passive equipment operation and maintenance. It now serves as a critical enabler for safe, efficient, green, and intelligent power generation.
