This year marks the 25th anniversary of Digital Fujian and the 10th anniversary of the Digital China initiative. On May 4, the on-site interactive area of the 8th Digital China Summit successfully concluded.
This Digital Summit featured a rich variety of activities, including the opening ceremony, main forum, sub-forums, and special events like “Digital Night Talk on Minjiang River,” as well as the highly anticipated on-site interactive area and the must-visit digital application scenarios. Fuzhou signed 108 major digital economy projects
A total of 108 major digital economy projects were signed at the concentrated signing economy during the Digital China Summit, with investments totaling 74.3 billion yuan.
Over the past eight editions of the Digital China Summit, Fuzhou has signed 904 major digital economy projects in total, with a total investment of 776.9 billion yuan. Driven by a series of investment and signing projects at the Digital Summit, Fuzhou’s digital economy has grown from·280 billion yuan in 2018 to over 790 billion yuan in 2024. The summit has played a key role in attracting investment with numerous leading and fast-growing companies in key sectors and core industries of the digital economy, both at home and abroad, establishing a presence and growing in Fuzhou.

In addition, 50 projects were signed at the concentrated signing economy of key digital economy projects during the Digital China Summit, with a total investment of 50.5 billion yuan. Across the province, 455 digital economy projects were signed, marking an 8% increase, with a total investment reaching 228 billion yuan, reflecting a 12% growth. Among them, the Weia XR Immersive Smart E-sports Project aims to create a Metaverse E-sports 3.0 virtual space in the Shangxiahang Historical and Cultural District of Taijiang. The project will focus on immersive e-sports operations, XR viewing platforms, AI-powered interactive livestreaming, virtual idol commentary, and related industries, positioning itself at the forefront of the next-generation immersive entertainment industry.

At the main forum on April 29, the National Data Administration released the Digital China Development Report (2024). According to the report, over the past three years, the Digital China Development Index has grown steadily at over 10% each year. The digital economy is becoming stronger and more efficient, with the added value of core industries in the digital economy contributing about 10% to the national GDP. “In 2024, China further solidified the foundation for Digital China’s development, with digital technology innovation advancing to new levels.” Additionally, according to the report, in 2024, a total of 45,000 generative AI patents were filed globally, and China accounted for 61.5% of them; The data element market opened up new space for growth, with China producing 41.06 zettabytes of data in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 25%, alongside a noticeable rise in both the quantity and quality of high-quality datasets; China’s digital infrastructure saw significant upgrades, with total computing power reaching 280 EFLOPS and 4.251 million 5G base stations built, and more than 60% of the newly added computing power nationwide was concentrated in the eight major data hub regions.
On the afternoon of April 29, the Digital China Development Index System and the Digital China Development Index were released. “The establishment of the digital China development index system marks a new phase in monitoring and evaluating the progress of Digital China. Moving ahead, we will continue to refine and improve the system, strengthen monitoring and evaluations, and guide the ongoing development of Digital China,” said Hu Jianbo, Director of the National Institute of Data Development. He also noted that the development of new fields, such as artificial intelligence, is raising new requirements for data management. To speed up the development of Digital China, we must seize the unprecedented opportunities brought by artificial intelligence, promote reforms in the market-driven allocation of data resources, and align efforts with the “AI+” initiative to create a powerful synergy. We will continue advancing the construction of computing power infrastructure, ensuring a high-quality data supply, and facilitating data circulation and transactions.
In addition, the National Data Resources Survey Report (2024) was also released during this Digital China Summit. According to the report, China’s total data production reached 41.06 zettabytes in 2024, equivalent to over 13 million high-complexity 3D animated films like Ne Zha 2.
At the “Digital Fujian: Empowering Industries” sub-forum, the first batch of 17 key demonstration scenarios for utilizing public data to empower industry development in Fujian Province was unveiled. The data elements of these demonstration scenarios will empower a wide range of sectors.

The development of Digital China has made significant leaps and achieved impressive results. Ke Ruiwen, Secretary of the Party Group and Chairman of China Telecommunications Corporation, highlighted that China is currently at a crucial juncture in the development of Digital China, transitioning from digitalization to intelligence, which will open a new chapter in its development.
The emergence of large ecological models unleashing “digital” power, the flow of identity-based meteorological data, and the rapid advancement of the digital twin system for water resources management… The sub-forums sparkled like a constellation, bringing together experts, scholars, and representatives from the government and enterprises across the country in Fuzhou to exchange practical insights and showcase cutting-edge technologies.
At the Digital Economy sub-forum, Wang Qixin, Director of Unitree Robotics, said, artificial intelligence is advancing from weak AI to strong AI and will eventually evolve into general AI that can fully replicate human intelligence.
At the “Dialogue with Academicians and Experts,” eight academicians engaged in high-level discussions, addressing the shortcomings and opportunities in Fujian’s utilization of large AI models to empower high-quality development across various industries. They also analyzed the challenges Fujian faces in integrating technological and industrial innovation, offering suggestions for improvement.
